What do you want first, the inspiration to the poem or the poem itself (chicken or egg dilemma)? This blog isn’t really interactive so I’ll make the decision. Many years ago my family went on vacation to Yellowstone National Park and did not see any wildlife. Soon after we returned home, a moose wandered into the local cemetery. And when I say local, I mean local to my house (we live on the street right next to it). As far as I know, this is the only time a moose has roamed my neighborhood. I wrote this poem years ago based on this experience. Continue reading

The Fool
Who is creating a fuss –
causing ruckus?
This scene is quite the ado

Thanksgiving Day
Ahead of that big
ol’ season of the gimme
we get to be thankful
for what we have already.
Most Thankful For
Dodgeball November 10, 2012
Look at them line up
a small army to be sure
ready to get us
with their arsenal of nerf
colorful nerf arsenal. Continue reading
Our Christmas Angel
Right before Christmas
you had to leave us.
That left a mark
on my heart.
But I’m your daughter
so I’m a fighter –
and I got this.
Yeah, I got this.
The Worst Day of the Year
Get Behind Me, Little Devil
I wake up,
the sun is shining
the new day brings
hope.
“Bring on the day,” I say.
“You will fail today,” says the little voice on my shoulder.
“Ha!” I laugh. “I know who I am. I know my plan. I will conquer the day!”
I affirm boldly.
One Little Tree
I am one little tree
one little tree as you can see
as you can see I stand alone
I stand alone where my seed was sown
my seed was sown downhill from the rest
the rest of the trees are up by the crest
up by the crest they share water and sun
water and sun I get since I’m only one
I’m only one to stand against the gale
against the gale sometimes I want to fail
I want to fail when I’m alone during this test
during this test I have no guard like those by the crest
by the crest with all the rest has some perks
some perks but also a few quirks
a few quirks so it’s all right with me
all right with me to be one little tree.
