Way to go, Steve Wariner!

I have a confession.  Once upon a time, many years ago I went through a country phase.  Don’t blame me, though, it was the early 90’s, the time of Garth Brooks – who personally brought a resurgence of country music.  Plus, I happen to come from two people who prefer Willie Nelson to anything the Beatles had to offer.  So, it’s in my genes and it was inevitable that I would catch it.  My time with country music was brief.  I stopped listening to it when I realized it made me feel older than my peers.

Words of Wisdom from an Old Aunt

Sometimes when you’re at the beginning
Of a long trip, it can look frightening.
I’ve been where you are now –
And I’ve made it this far somehow.
I know little of what will happen,
Before you reach the journey’s end.
Though I cannot ease the fear,
Or promise good times to be always near,
I can share what I’ve learned,
When I had my turn.
Always have a smile and a kind word.
Learn to love life and live it for all it’s worth.
Stay true to what you know in your heart,
Don’t let the world tear your dreams apart.
Remember, be thankful each and every day,
Your family is there to help you along the way.
Above all else, the Lord will help you through,
And always know I am there for you.

I realize this isn’t much to give.
But I know now, life is to live.
With only paper and pen,
I am trying to share – friend to friend,
All the lessons I have found,
Because it seems they go around.
I’ve given you my most humble counsel,
And I hope life treats you well.
Know somebody always cares,
And you are in our daily prayers.

Behind Nicole’s Eyes

In a world that can hold so much fright,
I feel all I can do is hold on tight.
I never knew what hope could do,
Till I looked Behind Nicole’s Eyes.
When my soul was a little gray,
I looked outside and saw a dark day.
I felt no hope till I looked down,
And the answer I found,

Behind Nicole’s Eyes,
Beats the rhythm of her song.
Behind Nicole’s Eyes,
Is the hope of a new dawn.
And when I try to dream,
What the world can be
The answer screams
And I realize,
Our hope lies,
Behind Nicole’s Eyes.

They have been known to hold fire and heart,
Sometimes a world apart.
Usually filled with hope and fun
And as always the magic’s done,
Behind Nicole’s Eyes.

When I’m feeling I can’t go on,
I look for the rhythm of Nicole’s song,
Behind Nicole’s Eyes.

Krista’s Prayer

Before leaving our heavenly home,
Father may have sent you with a prayer.
I can only imagine what was said for you,
Since I wasn’t there.

“My dear precious one,”
He said as you sat upon his lap,
“Dear sweet little soul,
The time has come for you to leave this home now,
But please remember your goal.
Oh, how I want you to succeed.
I want you to win this important race
In order to do that,
You must forget, for a little while, this place.
But I am sending you to a faithful,
Loving home.
A special place that waits for you,
And where you will not be alone.
I am giving you many gifts
To help your spirit grow.
Many blessings to help you,
Like a mother who will love you so.
You will also have a father
Who is there to see you through.
The two of them are there and waiting
And will help you to stay true.
You’ll get to have two sisters,
Who will become your best friends.
And soon you’ll have a brother,
To stand by you till the end.
And a host of others,
Who are waiting there with love.
Because they realize,
You are a gift from here above.
Dear child of mine, dear little one.
My dear Krista Lyn, you have done well
While you have been here,
And you have hearkened faithfully to counsel.
Though you won’t remember any of this,
Truth with have a familiar chime.
There are gifts you have now,
And others you will discover over time.
You have the choice how to use your gifts,
But do not use them for the wrong.
If you will turn your gifts to me,
I will make them right, and true, and strong.
Temptations will come.
You have no need to fear or cower.
You have the gifts you need
To become a woman of honor and power.
A will as steady and strong
As the mighty oak that grows.
Some will try to turn you,
But stay close to me, I’ll fight your foes.
An imagination to lift your thoughts
As if on eagle’s wings.
Sights only you will know unless
You help others see what you are seeing.
A smile and laugh to be treasured,
And a delightful wit.
Remember to share them often,
To brighten those you are with.
I’m sending a friend with you,
Though you won’t see or know her.
A veiled guide for you,
An angel on your shoulder.
But remember, remember my dear Krista Lyn,
When your long, fruitful life is over,
Come home to me, again.

The Little Man’s Hands

The light of day had already gone,
But I wanted to go for a walk.
It was too cold for most to go along,
But he said he’d join me,
So I waited while he got his shoes on.
Then the little man’s hand,
Slipped into mine.
I knew, life would be fine.
It may get tough,
But nothing is stronger than love.
I held on tight,
As we walked that night.
I felt the promise of the plan,
In the warmth of the little man’s hand.
With bright eyes he looked at me,
And a smile that’ll make many friends.
There was no place I would rather be,
Than on that winter’s night
To be walking with him next to me.
How quickly the little man grows.
Now he’s playing,
Memories he’s making.
As he is learning
He keeps growing
One day he’ll be knowing
Then the man will be leaving.
That’s just the way life goes.
But for now,
The little man’s hand
Slips into mine.
I know, life will be fine.
It may get tough,
But nothing can beat love.
I’ll hold on tight –
And enjoy the night.
While I still can –
Hold onto the little man’s hand.

this isn’t weird if you belong to my family…

I’m not a control freak. There are just some things better left done by me. For example, I have the song picked out I want played at my funeral during the video of my life. I have made a lot of life videos. Most songs are picked out by the bereaved family members. A funeral is already a sad affair. A sad song played for a photo montage is not necessary. That’s why I want my theme song:
