What I read….
…and the Lord said –
“It is time to cross the sea
to the promised land
prepared by my hand for the free.
Poetry inspired by being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
What I read….
…and the Lord said –
“It is time to cross the sea
to the promised land
prepared by my hand for the free.
Listen to the blind man’s story,
of how he came to see:
“There I was, sitting alone again
Without any friend.
On the street so hard,
In my world so very dark.
Till one day, a man came.
I did not even know his name.
He asked if I’d like to see,
Of course I would, so he healed me.
Some accused him of blasphemy, but I believed.
When I told him so,
He beckoned me to follow.”
Come – is all that was spoken.
Come – witness the heavens open.
Come – obey this command,
Soon you will understand.
Come – knock on the door.
Come -blessings are in store.
Come to me,
Miracles you will see.
Listen as Peter tells his story,
of a time in Galilee:
“One night my friend stayed while the rest pressed on,
And just before dawn,
Someone pointed out to sea,
Where a ghost walked gracefully.
But as I looked again,
It wasn’t a ghost, but my good friend.
And he spoke to us, ‘Be of good cheer,’
he comforted us all, ‘do not fear.’
My voice was soft, I wasn’t sure he’d hear,
I asked, ‘Lord, bid me to come near.’
He extended his hand,
And said a simple command:”
Come – is all that was spoken.
Come – witness the heavens open.
Come – obey this command,
soon you will understand.
Come – knock on the door.
Come – blessings are in store.
Come to me,
Miracles you will see.
“I walked boldly till I looked away to the sea.
As I sank into the cold water, I cried, “Lord, save me!”
I cannot tell you, there is no word to describe,
how warm his hand felt, as he pulled me to his side.
I looked at him, no more casting my eyes about.
‘O ye of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’
Listen to the last story,
Of anyone it can be:
“It always seems, I stand alone here,
Wishing a friend near.
But loneliness, my true friend,
has found me once again.
My heart feels like it will tear,
Till I finally kneel in prayer.
The answer comes, ‘Be of good cheer.
I the Lord am with you, do not fear.
I know your name, you are not alone.
Through this, faith’s seed is sown.
But first you must pass the test,
then your heart will know rest.’
Come – is all that is spoken.
Come – witness the heavens open.
Come – obey this command,
Soon you will understand
Where I come from.
Come – knock on the door.
Come – blessings are in store.
Come to me,
miracles you will see,
if you will but come.

If I had known a few months ago when I wrote this how many spoofs from this song would be born – I probably would have gone a different route. But I didn’t. Here is part of our camp skit (not performed by me) set to the tune of (what else?) Let It Go from Frozen (sorry, you are probably tired of the song by now).
Let it Go – Idina Menzel version
Here I am searching for answers tonight
she said they will come to me
but I have to do my part first
so I’ll try it out and see
The river from the east
flowed down the countryside.
It said,
Born of a spring, I am clean
It takes work
to provide water for all in sight.
The animals drink from me
I give of myself freely.
I try to do the right.
Look at that man
standing all alone.
His head bent, his garment torn.
He stands apart in the shadows.
His hands in shackles, his eyes remain low.
Here comes someone who comes with a key
but it is fake and mocks liberty.
The prophet said,
the great test
we learn in life
is to obey
that will bring us rest.
Who am I to argue?
I do agree
obedience
is the test
and love is the key.

I made a mistake
I messed up big today.
Now sleep will not come while
my mind is stuck on replay.
I am thankful for spring –
with its longer days and warmer air.
I am thankful for sweets –
and all the delicious goodies we share.
