Time Flies Fast When You’re on IMDB

I’m watching “Can’t Get Enough of Jurassic Park” on AMC.  Wayne Knight just became supper for a deceptively innocent looking (at first) dinosaur.  I wonder what the guy is like in real life because he has played some real jerks in his roles.   So, I go to IMDB.com the internet movie database that is so handy and to be honest, I spend more time on than any of the news websites.  Not proud of the fact but that’s just how I roll.

The site tells me his given name is Wayne Eliot Knight and was born in 1955.  I don’t care enough to do the math to find out how old he is I’m on a specific mission.  Seinfeld blah…blah…blah.  Married for seven years.  Apparently I’m the only person who wondered this because there is nothing about it in the trivia.  I’ve lost interest.

Sam Neill and Laura Dern play love interests in the movie.  He is obviously older than her but by how much?  I type in Sam Neill in the search and look at his bio.  Born in 1947 (6 years younger than my mom) which means he is 64 and his given name was Nigel.  Good move going by the name Sam instead.  He has some redeeming qualities such as he was born in Ireland and raised in New Zealand.  I wish he spoke with a New Zealand drawl in the movie.  I could overlook the fact he is old enough to be my dad if he has an accent.  I scan through his bio.  He’s been married to the same woman since 1989.  That’s impressive especially for Hollywood.  He also owns three homes on three continents.  Now I’m jealous.  Sam has other interests besides acting which raises his cool factor just a bit.  And he’s a writer also.  I happen to like writers.

I type in Laura Dern’s name in the search window.  She was born a year between my brother and sister in 1967.  Twenty years between her and Neill.  Eww.  She came from an acting family.  Her parents are actors Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd.  Oh yeah.  At one time I knew who her mom was but had forgotten.  The name sounds familiar but I can’t think off hand what Diane Ladd has been in.  So I click on her name.  National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is one of the movies under the “Known For” tab.  I smile.  Good movie.  Or, at least one of those movies that’s very quotable.

I go back to Laura Dern.  She’s been married to Ben Harper for six years but has filed for divorce.  But I see she was engaged to Jeff Goldblum for two years in the 90’s.  Again, eww.  I click on Jeff Goldblum.  Born in 1952 he is 21 years older than me.  I forgot he was married to Geena Davis at one time.  Not much catches my fancy with his bio other than the fact it confirms my suspicions that he is one weird dude.

I backtrack to the Jurassic Park site and look through the cast.  Joseph Mazzello is the boy in the movie.  I wonder what he’s been up to and if he’s still acting.  His filmography lists movies into next year and a few recent prominent ones like The Social Network.  He was ten when Jurassic Park came out and now he’s 28.  He earned a degree from USC and is now getting into directing and writing.

I wonder what his movie sister is up to.  Back to Jurassic Park site and click on Ariana Richards.  There isn’t a lot of information for her.  She is only 6 years younger than me and her last movie was in 2007.  It says she is a graphic artist and lives in Oregon.  Steven Spielberg has one of her watercolors hanging in his office.

The movie is now over and I realize I spent more time checking IMDB than watching the movie.  It’s amazing how easy it is to waste so much time.
