General Conference thoughts: The Heart of a Prophet and Solemn Assembly

by Elder Gary E. Stevenson

Solemn Assembly presented by President Henry B. Eyring

This was the first conference since the transition of presidents.  President Monson passed away in January and President Nelson is now president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and prophet to the world.

Since it has been a decade since a transition has taken place, much focus was placed on the significance of the proceedings and the reassurance that this is, in fact, God’s church and such things are planned and accounted for.  I also learned a new phrase “apostolic interregnum.”

The proceedings made me think of Doctrine and Covenants section 1.  Because the Lord knew of the “calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth” He specifically prepared in wisdom and order a way of assurance for us to find light and peace.  His word continues in our day “What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.”

All things are done in wisdom and order.
