What did you want to be when you grew up? The very first ambition or dream?
I’ll tell you my first goal in life. Okay, my second dream. According to my mom, my first career goal was to be a mail lady. I know, I know. Big dreams for a little tyke. Apparently too lofty of an aim for a small town kid from Wyoming because I never achieved the desired success of being able to deliver mail. Sad to say, I am not a mail lady.
So, my second wish in life – kind of a letdown after that first one – was to be Carol Burnett. Not really be her but to have her job. You old timers remember the Carol Burnett Show? Yeah, that’s what I wanted to do with my life.
I would have succeeded if it weren’t for three minor setbacks:
1) I can’t memorize anything. On the plus side, I always feel like I’m hearing things for the first time.
2) I can’t dance even though I think I can. I was only ever a star in my basement with my imaginary audience.
3) I can’t sing. Even I admit this. My high school drama teacher wanted me to try out for the part of Miss Hannigan in the school’s rendition of Annie. The musical number stopped me cold. I always regret not trying.
I’m telling you, if it weren’t for these few little problems and the fact variety shows are a thing of the past, you’d be talking about the ck show right about now.
Don’t know what I’m talking about?
