Nearly ten years past thirty
and I’m feeling so hurty
after running with the cubs all day long.
“Climb the hill,” they said to me –
“you can do it, it’s easy.”
But something whispered, I don’t belong.
“You’re not young you must admit,”
my body yelled out, “Don’t do it!”
but my mind replied, “Hush up. Here we go!”
Days later, I’m still aching.
No more hikes I’ll be taking.
My body tells my mind, “I told you so!”
My mind keeps asking my body,
“When did you get so old on me?
You just can’t do what you used to do.”
My body said, “You were remiss
but insisted, ‘I got this’
so shut up, I’m not speaking to you!”
