To communicate with the Spirit of the Lord is our right, His blessing, and critical to our spiritual survival. In one of the most oft quoted statements since he said it, President Nelson warned “in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost” (Russell M. Nelson, “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives,”Ensign or Liahona, May 2018, 96). So yes, this kind of talk that helps me learn how to recognize the Spirit is important to me. General Conference thoughts: The True, Pure, and Simple Gospel of Jesus Christ
There is an acronym used by writers as a reminder to improve writing. It is pretty well known, even Judge Judy quoted it. It is KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid. Since it also works well with the gospel and teaching doctrine I have modified it to Keep It Simple Saint. Or if I’m teaching Relief Society Keep It Simple Sister. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: A Home Where the Spirit of the Lord Dwells
Do you think it’s becoming more important to make our homes sanctuaries of safety and peace? If so, President Eyring gives us a list of how to help us achieve that. While no list is foolproof because of that little thing called agency it is a list by an inspired messenger of God so, you know, it might be worth a look. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Just as He Did
I grew up with the idea to pattern my behavior and actions after Christ. I understood that He is the perfect example and why not model my life after perfection? Did I ever expect to follow perfectly? No, I don’t think so. It just seems like a given that to be like Him is unattainable in this life. But He is the perfect pattern to guide us. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Sharing What Is in Your Heart
My reaction when I hear the topic is missionary work? Ugh. Missionary work. And I start looking for an exit that I can slip out either figuratively or literally. Missionary work is not my strong suit. Never has been. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Answers to Prayer
One of my favorite oft quoted not-really-a-joke goes something like this. A man is in his house when the rain starts pouring down. Soon, a flood starts rising. Someone comes to his door and says, “Come with us, we will save you.” Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Careful versus Casual
When I think of casual I think of casual Fridays. They are a treat and we love them because we get to lower our normal office dress standard. We get to go to work comfortable and who doesn’t appreciate being comfortable? Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: How Can I Understand?
A quote attributed to Galileo goes like this, “You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself.” We only learn what we are receptive to learning. Basically, we learn what we want to learn. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Becoming Exemplary Latter-day Saints
by President Russell M. Nelson
What are the final remarks from a prophet during the fall session of conference?
He leaves a blessing on us. Plus, reminders on what we have learned. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Now Is the Time
by Elder Jack N. Gerard
Imagine driving your car on a road trip and discover you are on the wrong road that will take you nowhere near your intended destination. Do you keep driving anyway or do you immediately find a way to turn around and get on the correct road? Of course you turn around and make the necessary adjustments to get to your destination. Why continue on the road that will not take you to your desired destination? Continue reading
