There is an acronym used by writers as a reminder to improve writing. It is pretty well known, even Judge Judy quoted it. It is KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid. Since it also works well with the gospel and teaching doctrine I have modified it to Keep It Simple Saint. Or if I’m teaching Relief Society Keep It Simple Sister.
In other words, don’t pollute the simplicity of the gospel with philosophies of men. Don’t confuse programs with doctrine. The ancient Israelites made that mistake. They relied on the law of Moses for salvation and it became convoluted with laws and procedure. While they strained at the iotas of the law they became blind to the simple gospel it was designed to point them to.
They just needed to remember to keep it simple saint.
