This is the time when I explain my short story I wrote last month. It is reserved for what inspired my writing. Share my thoughts process. Give a little behind the scene peek, so to speak. Normally, I can share all that with no problem. As I’m writing this today though, I need to be honest. I really can’t remember the origin story.
What I can share is I really wanted the reason for this life long feud – and emphasis on the long – to be ridiculous. Actually, what I was originally going to aim for was the reason to be a violent agreement. That is a fun term I discovered that describes when two people argue – often passionately – without realizing they are, in reality, agreeing with each other.
To carry on such a life-long grudge would then become a choice. Gus and Marty chose to be enemies and looked for any infraction to support their side.
The fact that it mirrored the movie Grumpy Old Men (1993) was unintentional. But I am hoping the biggest difference between my little story and the movie is my characters really grew to hate each other. They were not by any definition of the word frenemies by the time they were in the nursing home.
The next 5-part short story will be in September. That is not a very long turn around time so I guess I better get busy writing!
