Debunking the too busy myth

Recently, I looked up quotes about being “too busy” on the internet.  That flimsy excuse is a pet peeve of mine and makes me roll my eyes when I hear it.  Of course, there are many thoughts on the subject but one that caught my attention was “Nobody is too busy, it’s just a matter of priorities.”  I wish I could share the attribution but that seems to be in debate.  It’s one of those nuggets of wisdom that has been ripped off and re-quoted in many a meme until the original quote has been lost in the shuffle. It is not my quote but I do share the sentiment.  With the New Year’s start only days away it’s a good time to remember we make time for the things we want to make time for.

PEOPLE: this year, make time for the people you want at your funeral.  Sounds morbid I know but the essence is who do you need to strengthen bonds with this year?  You could write each person’s name that matters to you on slips of paper.  Each week draw a name and focus on strengthening your bond with that person that week.  When you get through your entire list put them back in and draw them again.  Relationships take time, the best ones a lifetime.

SELF: this year, make time to strengthen you.  That includes a balance with all that makes up you.  Learn something new.  Make time to relax.  Engage in a hobby.  Deepen your faith.  Become the best you that you have the potential to become.  Only you can be you so be you well.

This coming year is an open slate waiting to be filled in with choices.  Whatever your plans remember there is no such thing as being “too busy.”  It’s all a matter of priorities.  Choose your priorities wisely this year.  You’ll thank me next December.
