General Conference thoughts: Meek and Lowly of Heart

by Elder David A. Bednar

The word meek has been given a bad rap.  It now implies all those things this day and age is against.  Things like quietness, timidity, shyness.  But it actually isn’t that at all.  And it is not a bad quality to acquire along the way either.

Someone once asked me what meekness was and I suggested they study Moses in the Bible.  After all, “Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3)   But really the best example of meekness would be to study the life of Christ.  When I read the Gospels in the New Testament I don’t picture Jesus as quiet, timid, or shy.  I do see Him as obedient, trustworthy, and faithful to His Father, our Almighty God.
