Practicing Empathy

I think I’ll just sit here
and rest a little bit.
I’ll try to turn my thoughts off
and get a little sleep.

I need a little sleep.
I’d love your company
but if you stay
please don’t paint a silver lining
for me.
Just sit with me
and maybe hold my hand.
We can watch the sun set together.
Let it all the weight set with the sun.
And the solution and the hope
can rise with the sun tomorrow.
But for now,
I think I’ll just sit here
and rest a little bit.

My friend posted the video below on her Facebook page and it got me thinking about sympathy and empathy.  That’s where this poem came from.
