I glanced at MSN.com to see the news of the day. Nothing really caught my eye until I noticed the popular pages section. Rolling Stones named the worst song of the 80’s. Now that’s newsworthy. I clicked the link and a picture of the group “Starship” pops up. “Uh oh,” I thought and I got a little worried. Starship happens to sing my future wedding-video song. I really don’t want my video to have the worst song of the 80’s on it so I clicked the link to find out which song it is. Whew! My wedding-video is safe. The consensus is “We Built This City,” and I nodded my head in approval.
Over the years I have accumulated several wedding-video songs. My number one song is by a little-known country artist Lari White. I say little known but she did have a bit part in a major motion picture. Remember that movie with Tom Hanks and the island? She is the actress at the very end he delivers the package to. Apparently, she’s also in Country Strong with Apple and Moses’ mom but I haven’t watched that, yet. Maybe when it comes on tv I’ll watch it while I try and write my blog. I tried to find a link to my actual wedding-video song, “I’ve Been Waiting for Your Love,” but I couldn’t find a video. Instead, I’m including a link to the first Lari White song I ever heard. I almost changed this blog to a “Things I Like” feature but I’m staying focused.
There’s more. I first heard the theme from Shrek when I worked at a video production place. My job was to make wedding-video montages from still photos. It only took once for this song to make it onto my list. Actually, it must have taken at least twice because I didn’t pay attention to it when I watched the movie Shrek. But when I heard it without the distraction of cartoon characters, I added it.
I gave one of my songs away. When my niece married I made a wedding-video for her and her husband. After I offered to make the video, I woke up about midnight and did a V-8 slap to the forehead. I promised her cousin I’d make a video of this song for her when she got married. Dang me! Still haven’t heard the end of it. It’s just a coincidence that the last two songs have been from cartoons.
The rest fluctuate with the times but these four have stayed constant. Obviously. They date back to the 80’s. I’m just waiting for the last piece of the puzzle to fall into place before I can actually make the video. But trust me it’s going to be good. And long.
