It’s a ritual of the living.
We set aside a time to remember.
First, those who have fallen
defending freedom.
Then the others.
It’s a ritual of the living.

Dear friend,
I know when we get together
there is no holding back
we can talk forever.
You said,
“I’ve got to go now.
There are lessons you
will learn
and must learn
when I’m gone.
It’s time for you to grow.
But it will be alright, child,
it will be alright.
You will be alright, child,
you will be alright.”
My grandma always said,
“I’ve got two feet on the ground,
“I can do anything anyone can do.”
She barely stood five feet
though she claimed five-two.
One day they woke up
hanging by a thread.
They married so young
now wondered what they did.
There’s an ebb and flow,
a give and take.
Sometimes your heart is full,
sometimes it breaks
and so you hold on.
“The Queen is coming,
she is coming here!
Get ready. Be prepared,”
the townspeople did cheer.
And come she did.
The Queen did come.
“Hey there dark cloud,
why did you take my sun away?
I don’t want to see you,
I don’t want to see you today.”
We are all soldiers
fighting, fighting in the night
with war comes scars and
some are visible while others
are hidden from sight.
