Here’s the thing. Love has never been my strong suit. I have always been more of a loner and a bit isolated. If there is a group of people I will tend to shy away. It’s just how I roll. Continue reading

General Conference thoughts: Christ: The Light That Shines in Darkness
Our eyes are made to find light. In fact, to do their job they need light. Stand in a windowless room and turn off the light. At first, you will see nothing but in a few minutes your eyes do that miraculous thing they do. They actually adjust so that they can see using small amounts of light. It’s a cool process that we take for granted. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Abound with Blessings
Not to detract from the analogy Elder Renlund used but to try and put it in my language here are my thoughts about faith and works. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Behold the Lamb of God
A small bit of counsel I picked up somewhere along the way in life that I have held onto helps me focus on the Sacrament. I will pass it along to you to see if it helps you. The ordinance of the Sacrament does not begin with the prayer, it begins with the hymn. In fact, if we view the hymn as a prelude to the prayer it helps us begin to focus and be reverent. This means if I arrive late to the meeting and the Sacrament hymn is being sung I wait out in the foyer until the ordinance is complete. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Hearing His Voice
The other day I pulled up to a gas pump and as I filled my tank I watched television. At the pump because the tv screen was on the pump and turned up loud. I had no choice, I had to watch because it wily got my attention. Wow, I thought, I can’t even have a moment to myself at the gas pump! Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Feasting upon the Words of Christ
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It’s the holiday about eating good food. A lot of food. But it’s more than the ton-o-food that makes a feast. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: The Eye of Faith
First of all, how cool is that artwork Elder Andersen used as his object lesson? I’d love to visit the exhibit in New York (if it is still available). Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Seeking Knowledge by the Spirit
To communicate with the Spirit of the Lord is our right, His blessing, and critical to our spiritual survival. In one of the most oft quoted statements since he said it, President Nelson warned “in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost” (Russell M. Nelson, “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives,”Ensign or Liahona, May 2018, 96). So yes, this kind of talk that helps me learn how to recognize the Spirit is important to me. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: A Home Where the Spirit of the Lord Dwells
Do you think it’s becoming more important to make our homes sanctuaries of safety and peace? If so, President Eyring gives us a list of how to help us achieve that. While no list is foolproof because of that little thing called agency it is a list by an inspired messenger of God so, you know, it might be worth a look. Continue reading
General Conference thoughts: Just as He Did
I grew up with the idea to pattern my behavior and actions after Christ. I understood that He is the perfect example and why not model my life after perfection? Did I ever expect to follow perfectly? No, I don’t think so. It just seems like a given that to be like Him is unattainable in this life. But He is the perfect pattern to guide us. Continue reading
