General Conference thoughts: Spiritually Defining Memories
When I served in Young Women, one of my responsibilities was to have a chat with primary aged girls that would soon come into the Young Women class. Our chat was to help prepare them for the next 6 years they would spend on their covenant path. What did I share with them? We looked in the Book of Mormon and found the word ‘remember.’ That, I told them, was the purpose of the Young Women organization. To help them remember the teaching of their parents and build upon it.

General Conference thoughts: Take Up Our Cross
To demonstrate a visual of this talk you’re going to need some rocks. Or books. Ask a volunteer to come to the front of the room and ask what are some things that worry everyone during a given day. With each answer, give the volunteer a rock (or book) to hold until she can’t hold anything else. Then ask her if she’d be comfortable holding all that in that spot for the rest of the lesson. General Conference thoughts: Giving Our Sprits Control over Our Bodies
This is difficult to use an object lesson because you don’t want to hurt or cause discomfort to anyone. But maybe a little discomfort is okay?
Find some annoying sound (used to be able to do fingers down a chalkboard but how many chalkboards are out there?) like a balloon being rubbed or static from the radio. Something that will cause most class members to lose focus on the teacher and concentrate on the annoying sound. As this is happening, tell a short story. At the end, quiz the class on details and see how many paid attention to the story and how many focused on the annoyance. Continue reading
