A stranger died today,
he went away.
I will never know him –
he will never know me.
A name was our bond,
my mother called him father,
I called him grandpa.
Farewell then, sir, farewell.

Oh, sad that he died a stranger to you! Farewell to him… Thinking of the story behind…
He lived five minutes away and died a stranger. All because of life 🙂
Oh, that’s really sad! So you never knew him at all? I never knew either of my grandfathers, but that was because they had died years before I was born. Must be a very strange feeling for you!
He remarried after my grandma died – long before I was born. His second wife kind of engulfed his life and broke ties with us. He was my last grandparent and the only grandpa I knew.
I actually wrote this 12 years ago when he died.
