not smart but not dumb just not a talented girl.
But I used to think
I might have one or two things to offer the world. Continue reading

I’m going to go out on a limb here and make a sweeping generalization. Here it goes and if I’m wrong you can stop reading. I give you permission. My bold claim is that nobody likes to be wrong. I will go one further and say as much as we don’t like to be wrong on the flip side we love to be right. With an opening statement like that who is going to argue? Because if you argue about this doesn’t it just prove my point? Continue reading

It’s funny. For at least the past few General Conferences I have been prompted to ‘up my game.’ I have tried to spend time studying the scriptures and reading words of the prophets. Continue reading
“’At this time of the rolling year,’ the spectre said, `I suffer most. Why did I walk through crowds of fellow-beings with my eyes turned down, and never raise them to that blessed Star which led the Wise Men to a poor abode? Were there no poor homes to which its light would have conducted me!‘
Scrooge was very much dismayed to hear the spectre going on at this rate, and began to quake exceedingly.
`Hear me!’ cried the Ghost. `My time is nearly gone.’
`I will,’ said Scrooge. `But don’t be hard upon me! Don’t be flowery, Jacob! Pray!’
`How it is that I appear before you in a shape that you can see, I may not tell. I have sat invisible beside you many and many a day.’
It was not an agreeable idea. Scrooge shivered, and wiped the perspiration from his brow.
`That is no light part of my penance,’ pursued the Ghost. `I am here to-night to warn you, that you have yet a chance and hope of escaping my fate. A chance and hope of my procuring, Ebenezer.’” (A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens, emphasis added).
Why was Marley permitted to visit Scrooge that fateful Christmas Eve night? Why was he allowed to warn his old partner of his impending fate? Maybe there was a silent prayer offered from the heart of Scrooge himself. It was so silent he wasn’t even aware he said it. From some hidden corner of his heart a plea was sent up. Maybe, just maybe this is what that hidden corner of his heart asked for on December 23rd. Continue reading

I don’t think all of us reading this understand love. True love. Pure love. Continue reading

Remember the movie Cast Away (2000) with Tom Hanks? It was a bit of snoozer because for a large portion of the film Tom’s character, Chuck, is alone on an island. He doesn’t want to be alone, he wants to be rescued but alas, no rescue comes. Probably a message in all that but it drags a bit. The movie has been playing on a couple of television stations recently and I’ve been able to become reacquainted with it. I watch it for a two second lesson hidden in a two hour movie. Matthew 25:14-30
One of my favorite parables in the New Testament is found in Matthew 25. Sandwiched between two other parables is the Parable of the Ten Talents. Something about each of us being given talents caught my fancy. Of course, in my humble youth I always assumed I was a five-talent girl who would end up with ten. I mean, why not? The sheer accumulation of years has knocked that ideation out of me but I still believe I am at least a two-talent girl just trying to double my abilities. At any rate, I have studied this parable and I now know that there’s more to it than I first thought. Continue reading

I love reading the Book of Mormon! I love that it helps me focus more on Christ and becoming a better disciple of Christ because I need all the help I can get. I have read the book almost daily since I was in high school and I still learn from it. Continue reading
