There once was an old man who lived in a tiny village. This old man lived a fairly simple life. He never had much luxury but he never wanted for anything. To sum it all up, he lived a content life in his little village. The only thing he ever spent money on for himself is chocolate milk. Something about it seemed to both comfort and relax him. The best time to drink it was after a long, grueling day in the field. In fact, he only drank it after particularly grueling days. It was his reward for handling such days. He loved chocolate milk.

The poetry of mine
I am not a poet.
I think I have been quite clear on the matter. When it comes to writing poetry I am a “learn as I go” and “fake it” kind of girl. My style (if you could call it that) is rhyming verse. That’s it. That’s what I call it because it rhymes. But I really couldn’t explain one type of poem from another. In my playbook, it really comes down to rhyming and non-rhyming. And for me, rhyming poems are easier to read and remember.
But yet, I share a poem once a week.
Continue readingDealing with Jerks
I was discussing the rude behavior of a certain individual with a friend. My friend, positive this person was aware of his actions, made the assumption that he would cower under a perceived authority figure. “Surely,” she surmised, “he’d act different toward this person’s wife.” I thought about it. “Only if he thinks he is doing something wrong. But let’s face it, he probably isn’t aware of how everyone is viewing his actions.”
Continue readingHiding Behind
I like taking pictures of trees. If you have ever perused my instagram account you will know this to be true. Something about a tree set against a sky background appeals to me. Especially when the trees are bare, in hibernation, waiting for life to take hold again. I think they are beautiful then and I think we can relate to them a bit. For example, we all tend to grow leaves to hide our branches. In our case, our souls are our branches and we hide them behind leafy green images of ourselves in order to make us seem more beautiful. But what are our leaves? While there are many things we tend to hide behind I’m only going to discuss three. Because, as you know and I have mentioned previously, I am not an expert. This is only my own observation.

The Reach
Some baby animals are born and can stand and walk within a short amount of time. For example, an elephant can stand 20 minutes after being born and learns to walk within its first hour. In two days, it can keep up with the herd. A giraffe can walk in about 30 minutes. For a human baby, the time varies but typically ranges between 9 and 18 months. Several factors need to fall into place before a baby becomes mobile. Two of those factors can teach us adults important principles in goal setting. They are vision and reach.
Continue readingThe peace of knowing that, indeed, I am a Child of God
I grew up as a member and attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of the most beloved hymns in the church, taught to the Primary children, and sung by the adults is “I am a Child of God.” The lyrics, penned by Naomi Randall are quite simple. Simple enough for primary children as young as three to learn. However, as an adult I have come to appreciate the profound message.

This tree is a block away from me. I pass it when I go on my lazy “just around the block” walks. In the summer, I didn’t notice it. Not until the leaves had all fallen and I could see the definitive skeletal remains. This tree has a message for us. This tree is a motivator.
Continue readingThe best confidence booster
Unless you are some kind of super human I’m going to assume you have some kind of weakness. A vulnerable spot. Something you just don’t have much confidence in. I’m going to share a secret with you. Maybe you already know it but for those that don’t here it is: the best way to build confidence is by accomplishment.
Continue readingThe truth of the matter…
I don’t have favorite people. Sure, there are some people I would rather spend more time with than others. There are some people who have traits and mannerisms that fall below my personal standard of annoyance. I’m not a snob. We all have an unspoken standard we measure people with. If a person happens to fall short of our measurement we fault them with a personality defect. What we are really saying though is that they didn’t meet our standard of non-annoyance. It’s true. In the back of our mind we are always judging others to see if they “make the cut.” So, no I don’t have favorites but I do have people who are a constant in my life.

Dang!
Sometimes those heartbreaks are going to come. Unfortunately, that is a part of life. In order to love we have to put our heart out there. All vulnerable and open. Sometimes it will pay off. Sometimes it will not. Not at all.
