Last month was a 5-Saturday month which means it was a 5-part short story here at ck’s days. And since this is the first Saturday of a new month, I’ll now explain the origin of the story. If you are a regular reader to this little blog, this is all going to sound familiar.
The end of July was fast approaching and (surprise, surprise) I had no idea for a story. But I also didn’t feel like I had time to sit down and write. That second statement can’t be verified because I can’t really recall why I felt so busy. But busy I felt. And tired. But tired might just be a given these days.
In short, August was quickly approaching and I had nothing. No plan. No idea. Nothing.
Of course, I contemplated not sharing a story at all. I have said for years that the well is now dry. Since I was so busy doing…whatever it was I was doing…why not let it pass? Take a break. Breaks are good for you. There are several memes that declare that so it must be true.
But I couldn’t just let it go.
But I also had no story ideas.
And then, I was watching the tv show Resident Alien (2021-2025). No, my story was not about aliens or had any similar plot line. But it did have the character Dan Twelvetrees. If you read my story you might be going, ‘Ohhh,” right about now. Tony Twomoons is based on Dan Twelvetrees played by Gary Farmer.
I should also point out that my story was never intended to be a mystery. Mainly because I know I’m a lousy mystery writer. So, the audience met the killer in the first chapter. But the characters didn’t realize it was him until the end so it wasn’t confirmed. It was never intended to be a mystery though. To ensure it wasn’t, Gil was at least mentioned in every chapter.
Continuity was a problem with this one. Mainly because there were a few Friday nights in August I spent writing or editing to get the chapter ready to post Saturday morning. While I like the character of Tony or Tyee Twomoons, I probably won’t be revisiting this story again. To be honest, even I got a little bored with it.
The next 5-Saturday month is November. I’m not making any promises that will be much better.
