Thirty years old blues

guest blogger

by Marilyn D. Lee

This week I’ve been feeling so blue,

I just don’t know what I want to do.

Others say it’s just the way it’s got to be;

they’ve been through it, just like me.

I’ve tried to act so big and brave,

instead of like I’m going to my grave.

But anyway I act, it still is hard.

So I just sit around like a tub of lard.

Maybe after “that” day has come and gone,

then I can pick up and “carry on.”

I just wish one thing the Lord had done,

let us go from twenty-nine to thirty-one.

  1. Oh, so this was written by your Mother!? I thought it was one of your guest posts – well, I suppose it is!! 🙂 It sounds quite sad, was it written about herself or inspired by someone else? I’ve got some of my Mothers poetry in a file somewhere, she went through a phase in the 70’s when she wrote quite a lot, having never written a word of it before. But hers were very calm and serene, I think one was about a walk in a palk – very quaint! 😉 Your Mother has really gone for the emotion and feelings, which is interesting, more my kind of writing! I think in the 70’s my Mother liked keeping her emotions under wraps, not necessarily a good thing! 😐 British ‘stiff upper lip’ syndrome I suppose! She shook it off a few years later, liberated herself to some degree! 🙂

  2. It was supposed to be a regular guest post but due to technical difficulties I looked into my mom’s box of poems. I was looking for another one of my grandma’s poems but found this. I wasn’t even born when she wrote it so I can’t say what she went through. But I have inherited her sense of humor so I’m sure it was tongue in cheek. It truly was a treasured find 🙂
And I’m always looking for guest bloggers – if you want to take a break from your blog break 😉

  3. Yes I could do poem for you if you’d like me to! 🙂 I’m not too great at writing poetry to order, where a subject is given and I have to come up with something poetic. But I think I could almost write about anything, but it might not be very good in that way. 😐 So let me know how you go about it, and I’ll see what I can do! 😀 Alternatively, you could pick one of my older ones from my blog in the last year if you’d prefer that?

  4. I’m pretty easy when it comes to this. I just ask that it be PG rated is all. Whatever will work best for you – would you rather I go through and find one already posted?
I am going to try and run the one that was supposed to be this month’s next (in December). So we have until January 12. How does that sound? I’m excited. It will be nice to have a fellow blogger’s post 🙂

  5. Yes it would be great fun to do for a change! 😀 I had a look at my poetry folder today and I think I’ve found one that would be good. So do I send it to your email, the one listed with your comments in my blog comments section? Or I suppose I could post it in a comment box here and you could copy and paste into a draft and then delete the poetry comment afterwards – strange way to do things, but it could work!

If you’re not entirely happy with the poem, you could go through my older ones on the blog and copy and paste the words from the poem on the page, that should work. I’ll look forward to that! 😀
