The Prayer

The plea: “I need Thee every hour.  Stay Thou nearby.  Temptations lose their pow’r when Thou art nigh.  I need Thee, oh, I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee!  Oh, bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee!” (Hawkes and Lowry).

Repentance: “I was not ever thus, nor pray’d  that thou shouldst lead me on.  I loved to choose and see my path; but now, Lead thou me on!  I loved the garish day, and spite of fears, Pride ruled my will.  Remember not past years” (Newman and Dykes).

The Answer: “Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.  I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand” (Keen).

The Witness: “He lives to grant me rich supply.  He lives to guide me with his eye.  He lives to comfort me when faint.  He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.  He lives to silence all my fears.  He lives to wipe away my tears.  He lives to calm my troubled heart.  He lives all blessings to impart (Medley and Edwards).

The Testimony: “I believe in Christ; He stands supreme!  From him I’ll gain my fondest dream; And while I strive through grief and pain, His voice is heard: ‘Ye shall obtain.’  I believe in Christ; so come what may, with Him I’ll stand in that great day When on this earth He comes again To rule among the sons of men” (McConkie and Longhurst).
