I am not a bold person. It’s true. For most of my life I have followed the path of least resistance like water. It’s funny though, it only took one decision to step outside my comfort zone to help me choose something some people call daring or brave or stupid. I’ve heard them all. Whatever you want to call it, this is how one trip outside the country eventually led to me parachuting out of a plane four years later.

There is a common notion these days that we are independent creatures. “Live your life” as you want to or need to. Yes, I agree this is quite compelling. Yes, I agree that no one should live their life based on another person’s ideals or worse, wants. You need to live your life to the best of your ability and according to the dictates of your own conscience. But, you have to realize there is a caveat to that. A life filled with love means you are not truly as independent as you think. Your actions will affect others.

I think this past spring we were all taught a lesson in the necessity of having a safe refuge to flee to. There are those that already knew this lesson but as a global whole, the rest of us were schooled in this truth. At some point, we all need a refuge to be in to rest, heal, and feel safe.
