They Come at Night

They come at night, you know.

Thieving, stealing, slinking, breaking.

In the dark so know one will see.

Cover. Hide. Run. Flee.

Some kind of life they lead.

Where is dignity?

What is that?

Where is pride?

Give me some.

Where is my dignity?

We stole it.

Where is my privacy?

We rummaged through it.

Where is my security?

We ran off with it.

Most don’t care.

They can’t.

It happens too often

Welcome to the city.

Warning:

They come at night, though.

The Thing About Fall Is…

Grand Tetons Wyoming

The thing about fall is…

I used to love it

Was it the spectacular colors?

Was it the change in the air?

Was it school starting?

I don’t know.

But it used to fill me with excitement.

The thing about fall is…

I don’t like it now

Is it because everything dies?

Is it because it is the end of summer?

Is it because of the cold?

I don’t know.

But it now fills me with dread.

The thing about fall is…

I think of you often

Is it because in September I’m more aware?

Is it because October is your birthday?

Is it because another holiday season is approaching without you?

I don’t know.

But I’m a little more blue in the fall.

Come

Listen to the blind man’s story,

of how he came to see:

“There I was, sitting alone again

Without any friend.

On the street so hard,

In my world so very dark.

Till one day, a man came.

I did not even know his name.

He asked if I’d like to see,

Of course I would, so he healed me.

Some accused him of blasphemy, but I believed.

When I told him so,

He beckoned me to follow.”

Come – is all that was spoken.

Come – witness the heavens open.

Come – obey this command,

Soon you will understand.

Come – knock on the door.

Come -blessings are in store.

Come to me,

Miracles you will see.

Listen as Peter tells his story,

of a time in Galilee:

“One night my friend stayed while the rest pressed on,

And just before dawn,

Someone pointed out to sea,

Where a ghost walked gracefully.

But as I looked again,

It wasn’t a ghost, but my good friend.

And he spoke to us, ‘Be of good cheer,’

he comforted us all, ‘do not fear.’

My voice was soft, I wasn’t sure he’d hear,

I asked, ‘Lord, bid me to come near.’

He extended his hand,

And said a simple command:”

Come – is all that was spoken.

Come – witness the heavens open.

Come – obey this command,

soon you will understand.

Come – knock on the door.

Come – blessings are in store.

Come to me,

Miracles you will see.

“I walked boldly till I looked away to the sea.

As I sank into the cold water, I cried, “Lord, save me!”

I cannot tell you, there is no word to describe,

how warm his hand felt, as he pulled me to his side.

I looked at him, no more casting my eyes about.

‘O ye of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’

Listen to the last story,

Of anyone it can be:

“It always seems, I stand alone here,

Wishing a friend near.

But loneliness, my true friend,

has found me once again.

My heart feels like it will tear,

Till I finally kneel in prayer.

The answer comes, ‘Be of good cheer.

I the Lord am with you, do not fear.

I know your name, you are not alone.

Through this, faith’s seed is sown.

But first you must pass the test,

then your heart will know rest.’

Come – is all that is spoken.

Come – witness the heavens open.

Come – obey this command,

Soon you will understand

Where I come from.

Come – knock on the door.

Come – blessings are in store.

Come to me,

miracles you will see,

if you will but come.

I’m Sorry

You were a gift

sent from up above.

All I had to do

was to simply love.

An easy task

but I didn’t know

what love even was

and I failed you so.

Sorry doesn’t seem enough

but maybe it’s a start.

I’m sorry you became so tough

from a broken heart.

I’m sorry I made you feel small

and can’t win no matter what you do

when it’s me that can’t stand tall.

I’m sorry, so sorry, I’m sorry I broke you.
