“Hello, my old friend!”
I say, “It’s good to see you again.”
She looks with wide eyes
and her slack-jaw says surprise.
I draw closer,
and say, “It’s been forever.
When are you due?
I am so very happy for you!”
She shakes her head slowly
and I put my hand on her belly.
When it dawns on me,
last month my friend left the country.
Oops! What to do?
I say, “It was nice to see you.”
I turn my red face
and hightail it out of that place.
Next to her sat,
her friend and she whispers, “who’s that?”
“I have no clue,”
she says, “And no, I am not due!”
