A New Shift

I started this little blog at the end of March 2011. At that time, the primary purpose of my blog was to serve as an outlet for my writing. I am the person that always had these little pieces of paper everywhere I went with thoughts written down. This seemed to be a natural course even though I didn’t really understand what I wanted to say. I just knew I had something to say. And to be honest, I thought I had something so worth saying that people were going to love my writing.

As it turns out, I ended up spending time writing about grief when I lost my mom December 2011. This ended up being an unintentional therapeutic release as I expressed my emotions. Looking back on it now, I am thankful that course was set.

When I started, I wrote sporadically. I knew myself pretty well and I figured this would be a short-term thing that I would eventually give up on. Or rather, just move on. Let’s just say, I have never been too fond of commitment.

Funny thing happened though. Instead of giving up on it, I took greater hold of it. Instead of occasional posts, I started keeping a schedule. A regular schedule. I started keeping a schedule because I read that successful blogs needed a regular schedule. There were other rules that I read but that is the one that seemingly stuck. I developed a schedule and crazy thing about that is I STUCK TO IT.

And then I added more to my schedule. I had a weekly meme that I created to improve my graphic art skills and to do a little advertising for my blog on social media; I had not one but two poems weekly – one serious and one silly; I had a good news post that was basically just something I found online and shared; and I shared General Conference thoughts weekly from the latest Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints biannual General Conference. If you’re keeping track, yes, there was a stretch when I shared about 4 or 5 posts weekly. For a generally lazy person, that was a pace I couldn’t keep up. I downsized. I got rid of the meme, good news, one of the poem posts, and General Conference thoughts. That brought it down to just two posts a week, Wednesday poems and Saturday prose. On 5-Saturday months, the prose became a 5-part short story.

It is time to make another adjustment. Originally, this was going to announce a full stop while I take a break. I was going to use the time off to decide if I wanted to keep this little blog. But after thinking about it, there might still be some thoughts I would like to share. Just not as many. So, I will be taking another step back. This will be the last of my Saturday posts. For now, I will continue posting new material on Wednesday, but it won’t be exclusively poetry. It will be in whatever format I feel like sharing for the week.

As a reader, you will probably not even notice the difference. There will still be new content every week.

Thanks for hanging out with me at ck’s days. Hopefully, there will continue to be some content worth reading. See you on Wednesday!
