It all takes work

I recently read a little tidbit of trivia Facebook’s algorithm thought I’d be interested in. And guess what? It was correct in this instance. Before I proceed, being familiar with The Princess Bride (1987) and certainly its list of memorable quotes will not be necessary to appreciate the overall gist of the message. In other words, keep reading and don’t be turned off just because I named a cult classic movie.

The summary of the trivia that made its way to my Facebook wall is about the actor Wallace Shawn, who played Vizzini. If you have any familiarity with the movie, you are probably already quoting “Inconceivable” while hearing his voice in your head. And you are probably connecting it with Inigo’s response “you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

According to the post on Facebook (so take what you will about the veracity), Shawn didn’t just read or say the line. He actually recognized for the most impact the word needed to be delivered a certain way. So, he worked on it. He practiced delivering the word – the word – different ways. All this for a movie – a comedy. Certainly not a movie one would expect to require any importance associated with it. But yet, he took the work seriously and worked on it, one word at a time.

You can check out the post here for further reading.

Now we come to my point. It just goes to show that anything, anything we do in life takes work. If an activity or experience is taking up our time and mindset then put in the practice.

Work on it. Develop it. Enhance it. Own it.

Find your passion. Time is finite and it will run out. Don’t spend it on the path of least resistance. Go to work!

Now, for those of you that couldn’t quote the movie, what is wrong with you? Not knowing the reference in this post is, well, inconceivable.
