Where were you?
Where were you?
That was the day, him and his buddies
signed their names on the line
to leave their homes, small town,
and even good mommas behind.
His ticket out didn’t come cheap
but it was completely paid for
courtesy the U.S. Navy
because the country fought a war.
Time was ahead of him
laid out with no end in sight.
Adventure left a calling card
his life was about to start
unsure, but hopefully bright.
October 10, 1952
brought it all into view
this moment etched in time for him.
As he left, he wondered,
what exactly had he done?
Leaving everything he knew
it was, by far, too late to run.
He thought the world would be bigger
than 3 years on a ship at sea.
He served his time but by the end
back home is where he chose to be.
Time was ahead of him
laid out with no end in sight.
New adventures called his heart
a new life was about to start
unsure, but still so bright.
October 10, 1952
was in his rearview
a moment etched in time for him.
He’s lived so many days since then.
Some days were good; some days were bad.
Moments filled with happiness and love
other moments he knows were sad.
Quite a few days are now lost
as they faded to black.
But some he recalls every detail
and tells you where he was at.
Time is now behind him
memories are his sight.
His adventures are a part
of what beats in his heart.
Some moments still burn bright
like October 10, 1952
even in his rearview
is a moment etched in time for him.
