The cover of a book
can display more fiction
than the words on the actual page
And beginnings
and endings
can beg the reader to buy
But the books
that I never fall out of love with
their covers often bland
are to be found
or acquired
by chance of being there
just a lucky day
My mind quivers
with eager anticipation
at what my eyes will see
between the musty ancient pages
as my fingers stroke the aged and tatty skin
of a book from long ago
Authors I’ve not heard of
but were men of great fame
in their literary day
Publications
declared to be written ‘By A Lady’
a nameless novelist
a woman
quietly competing
in a man’s world of books
All their words folded into paper
a hundred years or more
the print
waiting
to be read
or spoken
just one more time
And now I
this woman of ebook future
and computer literate age
will absorb
the declaration
the knowledge
and the beauty
of a timeless writers heart

Thank you again for sharing the poetry!! 🙂 I have to say, it feels a little strange seeing my words on another blog – not a bad feeling, just, surprising! 😀 I’ve had someone else ask me to share some on theirs too for the special poetry month. They’ve chosen some short poetry that I’ve posted on Tumblr some months back. So relieved they liked it and didn’t ask me to write something specific, I’m really not good at that – I think it reminds me of school, being asked to write on certain subjects. That’s never gone down well with my head! 🙂
I was trying to save it to use later but my blogger backed out last minute again. I’m so glad I’ve been able to share your poetry! Not sure what I’ll do from now on though… 🙂
It’s nice to share works on other blogs and just get a feel for what else is out there. Plus, more audiences, right?
