Counting days on the calendar
to that fourth Thursday in November….
Everyone is coming
gathering from far and near
to celebrate the gift of thanks
because it is the best day of the year.
The smell of turkey
fills the house today
and we may sneak
a taste or two off the veggie tray.
Waiting for that jolly man
in the parade bringing up the rear
that marks the beginning
and that’s why it is the best day of the year.
So, come and join us
in the grand celebration
today starts the season –
the season of anticipation.
Today we give thanks
for everything we hold so dear
and enjoy the good company
because it is the best day of the year.
