Shooting Star

She was born in an unhappy home

but the façade was certainly in place

when her parents put on a smiling face.

Most days she spent totally on her own

she learned young that she had to go it alone.

Everyone would say, that “she’s a sunshine ray.

She has heart, she’s a star.

No doubt that girl will go far.”

And she worked hard to be that flame

she learned to carry on through her pain.

Most of her feelings she learned to ignore.

It was a secret of the family

they weren’t perfect like the picture on the wall.

She’d laugh and say, “haven’t we fooled them all?”

And no one looked hard enough to see

nothing was as it seemed to be.

No one ever knew, she did what she could do

how she cried through the night

with her dreams always just out of sight.

She could never see a way out

or have a life she was proud about.

Then she forgot what she was crying for.

She learned to cope with the world around her.

And oh, she really did the best she could

most of the time not doing what she should.

But a life without love made her unsure

the best she could do was simply endure

she missed the grace of love’s tender embrace.

And she tried with her might

but she never could take flight

her life seemed to just miss the mark.

She was always a match without a spark.

Until she couldn’t do it anymore.

Most of her feelings she learned to ignore.

Then she forgot what she was crying for.

Until she couldn’t do it anymore.
