Not All Came Home

We sent our boys to fight a war

and then we sent even more.

The cause agreed upon was liberty

to keep us living in the land of the free.

They returned with battle wounds

but if the scar could not be seen it was assumed

their life should simply restart and be resumed

and any pain or hurt should not be shown

because not all the boys came home.

Girls were eager to do their part.

Some stayed home working hard

to keep their family and country intact

their way of life they had to fast adapt.

Others went closer to the battle line.

War pays no attention and does not mind

boundaries or borders of any kind

geography or gender limits are not known

don’t forget not all the girls came home.
