I laugh first

when I play the fool.

Since I know

I will never be cool.

 

It’s my way

of regaining some control.

Just to dig

my way out of an awkward hole.

 

But sometimes

it’s just not in me

to laugh at

what everyone else will see.

 

I get tired

of always playing the fool.

Can we just

please change this old rule?
