“You’re a horrible, terrible, no good, lousy…
“A horrible, terrible, no good, lousy…” he whispered in her ear with every step she took.
His words weighed her down and her step slowed until it fell into rhythm with his cadence.
“Give up. Quit trying. Failing is your only talent.
“Horrible, terrible, no good, lousy…”
And no one argued with him or let her know he was wrong.
All she heard was his voice so she believed him.
The devil laughed when he saw the defeat in her downcast eyes.
“I’m a horrible, terrible, no good, lousy…” she said.
Another soldier down. A casualty of this unseen war.
